March 2010 Newsletter

Welcome everybody to the March 2010 newsletter.

Well this crafting year has started with a bang not a whimper and hopefully will continue this way for the remainder of the year.

ROYAL CANBERRA SHOW

I have now taken off my Chief Steward's hat for this year and the inaugural, dedicated Papercraft Section at the Royal Canberra Show was a great success. Thank you so much to all who contributed items and may not have placed but helped to ensure that a Papercraft Section will continue in future Shows.  A very, very big THANK YOU to the Judge who had a particularly difficult job in selecting the winners.

Congratulations go to the following shop regulars:

  • Betty Miller - who won a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for her cards; and
  • Heather Powrie - who won a 1st for her Paper Tole sandshoe picture (I wish I had a dollar for everyone who said "Oooh look at the shoes" I would be very rich) - well done Heather.

Shop Teachers who won prizes are:

  • Marie Navaratnam - who took out two 3rds one for her quilled candle and one for her framed Australian Floral quilled flowers;
  • Michaela Laurie - a 1st her her lovely scotty dog quilted card and a 2nd for her framed Australian gum leaves piece;
  • Brenda Majewski - a 1st and 2nd for her stamped cards; and
  • Shirley Scholte - a 1st and 2nd for her framed 4 seasons piece and her parchment dressed doll.

A very big congratulations goes to Shirley who not only won 1st and 2nd but also won champion of category and then went on to win champion of the papercraft section - CONGRATULATIONS SHIRLEY.

DUFEX PRODUCT

News out from England about this product is that the company has gone bankrupt and we will not be able to get this product any longer, which is a shame as it is such a popular product especially the 3D die cuts.  I am endeavouring to stock up on what remains of this product from the wholesalers but unfortunately the range remaining is very limited.  Keep your fingers crossed that the company will be taken over and the company will continue to supply their great product.

Hatches, Matches and Dispatches

Our deepest sympathies are extended to Wednesday class regular Sue Barrett who's husband passed away suddenly on Friday 19 February.  But also congratulations to Sue who became a Grandmother again to baby Aiden on Sunday 27 February - the circle of life continues.
